It didn't seem too long ago when I saw the breaking news of Johnny Damon signing with the Yankees to patrol centerfield in New York. As a Sox fan I was initially dissapointed; but these days in sports it's tough to be 'loyal' to any particular athlete.
The big debate in the Boston sports scene (prior to last night's game), "Should we cheer or boo him at his first at-bat?"
A HUGE majority of the fans wanted to boo him; simply because he made a business decision to leave. If a company offered me a job for more money...I, dare I say, ALL of us would've done the same thing and jumped ship.
So yesterday was the Yankee's first of nineteen games against the Sox and Damon's first game back in Boston. The reaction to his first at-bat was a mixture of boo's and cheer's. But from what I can make out while watching the game on tv, the boos drowned out the cheers.
I felt that the Fenway Faithful should've given him a standing ovation for his very first at-bat, since he was a key contributor to the 2004 World Series team and he played his ass off his four years in Boston. Then after that...he's on his own.

Hey D,
I was at that game and from where we were sitting (right field box just beyond Pesky's Pole) the fans booed him every time he came to bat. In contrast, Mirabelli received a standing O when he was announced.
Best sign on the night: A banner 4 seats wide that read TRADER appeared in the stands during one of Damon’s at bats. No one said Sox fans were the brightest.
Don't hate the player, hate the game!
