Tonight wifey and I went to our first Red Sox game of the season. I scored some tickets at work from a generous client earlier in the week. We we're looking forward to watching the first place Red Sox in inter-league play against the Atlanta Braves. But it just wasn't meant to be.
First off, Josh Beckett was scheduled to pitch the game. But Beckett was placed on the disable-list mid-week due to a finger injury. Instead we get Darren Hansack (who?), a minor league call-up who last pitched for the big club back in October of 2006. So not only we get an unknown pitcher for the Sox he was pitching against John Smoltz; who without a doubt will be a baseball hall of famer when he retires.
Secondly, our game was originally scheduled for Friday, May 18th. The game was re-scheduled because mother nature decided to rain and rain and rain all day. Even with the game moved to Saturday night it was still raining and overall miserable outside. Now, I know how it feels to be watching a Sox game in the shower and fully clothed.
Lastly, the Sox got pummeled. We left the game after the 5th inning because the score was 6-0 and I thought the game was going to be called after the 6th inning due to the weather. But I was wrong and they played the complete 9 innings. The final score of the game, Atlanta Falcons (Braves) 14 - Boston Red Sox 0.
But you know what?
We both had a great night at the ball park and that's all that really matters. Go Sox.
